Revolutionizing Sports Analytics: Scalable Live Streaming with AWS

About Customer

Magnifi is the flagship enterprise solution offered by MultiStream Technologies Pvt. Ltd., designed to help broadcasters, sports leagues, and digital media companies deliver real-time, AI-powered video highlights. Magnifi leverages advanced computer vision and machine learning models to automatically detect key moments, extract highlights, and generate social-ready clips — accelerating content publishing and improving audience engagement across sports, news, and entertainment formats.

Customer Challenges

  • Infrastructure Limitations & Low Uptime: On-prem architecture could not support GPU availability or real-time processing demands, leading to noticeable downtime during high-profile sports events.
  • Lack of Elastic Scalability: No auto-scaling or load balancing caused delays in stream ingestion and slow highlight generation during peak viewing periods, impacting user experience.
  • Manual Media Processing Bottlenecks: Absence of automated transcoding workflows created delays in highlight clip production, directly affecting time-to-publish for content partners.
  • Vendor Integration Restrictions: Limited scalability and dependency on legacy media tools slowed feature rollouts, reducing agility against competitive OTT platforms.
  • High Operational Overheads: Engineering teams spent excessive effort managing servers, storage, and monitoring — diverting focus from product innovation and core sports analytics.
  • Security & Compliance Risks: Manual patching and ad-hoc security practices led to recurring vulnerabilities and compliance issues, risking exposure of sensitive sports data.
  • Playback Latency Across Geographies: External OTT distribution suffered from high buffering and network delays in global regions, leading to reduced viewer satisfaction and engagement.

Our Solution Approach

To overcome the limitations of the existing on-premises infrastructure, Workmates Core2Cloud designed and implemented a fully scalable, cloud-native live streaming architecture on AWS. The modernized solution introduced automation, elasticity, and reliability across the media workflow — enabling real-time content processing and seamless delivery to millions of sports viewers.

Application Hosting & Compute Modernization

GPU-enabled Amazon EC2 instances were provisioned to support video analytics and AI-powered clip generation. Auto scaling dynamically adds compute capacity during major sports events, reducing latency and eliminating performance bottlenecks. This ensures high availability and uninterrupted parallel processing of live streams.

Real-Time Live Stream Ingestion

AWS Elemental MediaLive was used as the backbone for ingestion and encoding of live video feeds. It provides adaptive bitrate support for a consistent playback experience even under network fluctuations — accelerating the time to process, analyze, and publish highlight clips.

Automated Highlight Generation

AWS Elemental MediaConvert automated the creation and optimization of MP4/HLS clips. Manual intervention was removed entirely, reducing clip publishing time from hours to minutes while ensuring device compatibility across all supported OTT and social platforms.

Storage & Global Delivery

Amazon S3 now acts as a secure, durable media repository for raw and processed video assets. With Amazon CloudFront as the CDN, users experience low-latency playback and high throughput globally — even in low-bandwidth regions.

Workflow Automation & Orchestration

AWS Step Functions and EventBridge enabled serverless, event-driven pipelines that automatically trigger transcoding, metadata updates, and platform notifications. This improved operational consistency and eliminated workflow delays during peak match moments.

Monitoring & Security

Amazon CloudWatch and AWS CloudTrail centralized health, performance, and security monitoring, enabling proactive anomaly detection and faster incident resolution. IAM-driven access and MFA enforcement strengthened infrastructure security and protected analytics data end-to-end.

Results and Benefits

  • Accelerated Delivery & Deployment: Transitioning to a scalable AWS architecture shortened deployment cycles, allowing faster rollout of live streams and automated highlight clips — supporting rapid growth without impacting user experience.
  • Superior Viewer Experience: Removal of legacy bottlenecks and adoption of a fully cloud-native video pipeline reduced buffering, improved stream stability, and delivered consistently high-quality playback across devices.
  • Effortless Elastic Scaling: Auto-scaling infrastructure dynamically adjusts to real-time viewer surges during major sporting events, ensuring uninterrupted streaming and high availability at peak loads.
  • High Availability & Business Continuity: Automated failover mechanisms and resilient architecture minimized downtime, boosting operational confidence and platform reliability.
  • Operational Efficiency & Cost Reduction: Automation of stream processing and infrastructure operations significantly reduced manual effort, enabling teams to focus on AI innovation and analytics while optimizing total cost of ownership.
  • Enhanced Security & Compliance: Enforced IAM roles, encrypted data flows, private network boundaries, and automated compliance controls strengthened security posture and reduced breach risks, improving platform trust and governance.

Security Considerations

  • IAM Role-Based Access: Enforced least-privilege access across all services using fine-grained IAM policies.
  • VPN-Bound Remote Access: Admins and developers access resources only via SSL VPN; RDP/SSH ports are restricted to VPN subnets.
  • Network Segmentation: Public-facing components are isolated from backend services using ALBs and Security Groups.
  • Encrypted Communication & Data: All data is encrypted at rest (AWS KMS) and in transit (TLS/SSL).
  • API Logging & Activity Auditing: CloudTrail and AWS Config track all access and infrastructure changes for full visibility and audit compliance.
  • Secure CI/CD Pipeline: Credentials are stored securely in AWS Secrets Manager, and artifact integrity is ensured throughout pipeline execution.
